Work Set to Begin on Brand New Community and Visitor Centre

Local politicians, Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM and Jonathan Edwards MP, have welcomed the news that a construction work will soon be staring on a brand new community and visitor centre, which forms part of a wider community revival project.

The villagers of Myddfai in Carmarthenshire were awarded over £400,000 in Lottery good cause cash in May 2010 through Village SOS, a scheme by the Big Lottery Fund (BIG) and the BBC that aims to inspire a rural revival across the UK. Working under the village hall charity Tŷ Talcen, the project secured the bumper grant to set up a social enterprise called Myddfai, which is creating and selling a whole new range and brand of craft products from the local community in Myddfai near Llandovery.

Construction work on the new community hall and Visitor and Interpretation Centre, which will be run by volunteers via the charity, will begin on Monday September 20. They hope to complete the build in six months, with the official opening taking place in August 2011.

Local AM Rhodri Glyn Thomas said:

“This is excellent news for the village. I am sure that the new facility will be very popular and will play an important role in the community for many years to come.”

Jonathan Edwards MP added:

“Those involved in this project should be congratulated on their excellent work in securing the funding. I am sure everyone who has worked so hard in ensuring this project has got to the stage it has through Village SOS, will be delighted to see those efforts rewarded.”
