Stop the downgrading of Vital Animal Health Laboratories in Wales

The Animal Health Veterinary Laboratory Agency (AHVLA) has confirmed its intention to withdraw testing facilities in its laboratories in Carmarthen and Aberystwyth by 2013. These laboratories are the only two facilities in the whole of Wales.

The farming industry in Wales is dependent on swift analysis from laboratories. It is crucial for animal health and welfare, public health and food security. Sending information out of the country will inevitably cause delays and potentially have serious consequences.

If the Conservative and Liberal Democrat UK Government follows the downgrading proposal, it will be a massive blow to Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and the wider rural economy.
