Energy Policy

I believe that energy policy should be fully devolved to Wales – in particular power over energy related planning applications. Currently the Government of Wales has no say over any development over 50 megawatts. This means that the UK Government could decide at any stage to develop a new nuclear power station in South Wales. Also, many planning applications for large wind farms do not receive local scrutiny as they are decided by an unelected UK Government quango, the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC). The IPC has no remit over planning applications in Northern Ireland or Scotland. Not a single person for Wales sits on the Commission

Wales is a net exporter of energy, and it’s a disgrace that we as a nation don’t have full say over how our natural resources are utilised to create energy. If elected to Parliament I will campaign for full devolution of all energy policy.
