Save our Police Helicopter

Under current plans the Dyfed Powys Police helicopter will be scrapped on the 1st January 2016.

We believe that our police helicopter has played a pivotal role in protecting our communities and saving lives, and must be protected from budget cuts and centralisation.

We call upon the Home Secretary to intervene and protect our dedicated Police helicopter so it can continue to serve our communities and save lives.

The Dyfed Powys Police helicopter is an invaluable resource to mountain rescue in mid Wales & has helped save many lives over the years, it also plays an important role in crime prevention & detection in a large rural area and must not be scrapped.

As a mountain rescue volunteer for over 30 years working across Dyfed Powys Force area I have experienced first hand the lives saved by this resource. While rescue may not generate an income and a fixed wing aircraft may be more economical for crime prevention, Dyfed & Powys are rural areas with a lot of remote communities who depend on the versatility that only a helicopter can offer. To move away from this service with this aircraft would be, in my opinion, a huge step backwards.

It’s an important helicopter that’s needed in Carmarthenshire. Council have already taken away CCTV which leave people vulnerable don’t make more people vulnerable by taking this helicopter away. There have been times of joy riders and traffic accidents on our busy roads and duel carriageways. Missing people have been found using the copter as well as wanted criminals.

Don’t take this away from the town

A vital asset in policing such a geographically large police force area.

My sister was rescued by helicopter from the top of Mynydd Eppynt after a fall from her horse. Without the helicopter, I could not have got her off the mountain and it would have taken the rescue services a very long time to reach her. It is a vital service.
