Iraq – Amnesty Torture Report

Human Rights campaigners Amnesty International have just published a detailed 59 page report indicating that torture and human right abuses are widespread in the democratic utopia of Iraq. The report entitled ‘New Order, Same Abuses’ indicates that an estimated 30,000 people are languishing in jail without trial; that prisoners routinely face torture; and that several people have died as a result of their treatment.

According to the report methods of torture include beatings with cables and hosepipes; the breaking of limbs; piercing of the body with drills and psychological torture in the forms of threat of rape.

Is this the new Iraq the UK Government had in mind when it invaded the country in 2003?
