AM and MP call for review of all school toilets in the County

Following Children’s Commissioner for Wales, Keith Towler’s, calls for major improvement in the provision of adequate school toilet facilities in Wales, Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM and Jonathan Edwards MP have urged Carmarthenshire County Council to review all school toilets in the county.

The Carmarthen East and Dinefwr AM and MP say that the report highlighted the fears of sub standard school toilets and checks need to be put in place to ensure that pupils in Carmarthenshire are benefiting from good toilet facilities.

Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM said:

“This is a very important report by the Children’s Commissioner and I fully agree with him that it is vitally important that we focus on getting the ‘basics’ right to protect children’s dignity.

I am sure everyone at Carmarthenshire County Council is equally passionate about these issues and I would welcome moves by them, if they have not already been put into practice, to review the standards of school toilets in the county.”

Jonathan Edwards MP said:

“It is of course concerning that the Commissioner’s report shows that poor toilet facilities continue to worry many children and young people. The basic standards, such as functioning locks and doors as well as toilet paper and soap should be provided at all times, with measures in place to keep track on them.”
